Grade & Proficiency

This page discusses file 04_15_StudentSecResult

How should we report our elementary schools for the 04_15_StudentSecResults as our Elementary Schools are planning to use a Narrative Report Card?

The student should receive all the credits available for the course. A few options for reporting this data are

Pass/Fail

Ungraded Course.

Mark Not Required

How the school issues these grades is up to the local school.

What is the definition of the grade level AW? I know it's adult without diploma, but what determines that?

This is applied to students 19 years of age or older that have not graduated yet.

For Standards Based grades, what is expected for reporting?

Most schools using standards based grading are using a proficient scale that is commonly thought of as a 1-4 rating

Legacy Code Grade Reported
25 Failing (Very Poor Performance)
26 Minimally Acceptable (Lowest passing grade)
27 Acceptable (Meets some of the basic standards for the course)
28 Good (Meets standards for the assignment or course)
29 Outstanding (Meets the highest standards for the assignment of course)

If there is a final grade given at the course level then it would make sense to report that as the final transcript grade. For example, if English Language Arts is the course and there is an overall assessment for all work done in the course, there is prescription to use any particular grading systems that makes sense for the course at hand.

If however most grades within the course are focusing on assessing a particular standard and there is no overall assessment of student performance, we just assign the students a pass/fail grade for this transcript. Your school can still choose to send more detailed transcripts of students on individuals content and skill areas, but our current data system has no way of accommodating this information.

Who will see the data of grades for our students?  How will that data be used?

This is used to compare student group participation across various types of course like flexible pathway courses: CTE, Postsecondary, virtual, Expanded learning, Work based opportunities, service based learning, and adult education.

In addition people examine student group participation in electives. There are also calculation done to determine the class size in core academic areas and others course work that students do.

The requirements to collect on this data fall under state laws and School board rules for the Educator Quality Standards under Vermont State law. It also required for reporting the accountability systems under the ESSA monitoring system.
